Unlocking Female Entrepreneurship in Stoke-on-Trent

Categories:

As the World prepares for International Woman’s Day on the 8th March, this year’s theme #BalanceforBetter wants to help build a gender-balanced world. The race is on for more female Directors and CEOs in the boardroom, a gender-balance of employees and for MyCleverHub a gender-balance of entrepreneurs partnering with the Hub to grow their business.

The number of female entrepreneurs and female-owned businesses has recently increased, however the government is still concerned by the data on female entrepreneurship.

Since MyCleverHub launched earlier this year, we have received three times as many applications from males compared to females. Whilst MyCleverHub is still in its infancy, this early indicator appears to follow a national trend. The number of female entrepreneurs and female-owned businesses has recently increased, however the government is still concerned by the data on female entrepreneurship.

New government report will make recommendations on how to encourage more women to start their own business

In 2018, the Government launched an investigation into the issue surrounding female entrepreneurship led by RBS CEO of Commercial and Private Banking Alison Rose. The report, due to be published this Spring, will make recommendations on how to encourage more women to start their own business. The review reflects that less than 20% of small and medium businesses in the UK are led by women, with statistics showing there are twice as many male entrepreneurs as females¹.

Female entrepreneurs searching for inspiration to start their business in Stoke-on-Trent need only venture past the bet365 headquarters. A stark reminder that our city plays home to the best paid female executive in the world. Denise Coates should stand as an inspiration for women all over the world to pursue their entrepreneurial ambitions.

MyCleverHub hopes to encourage new generations of women to take the leap and start their own business. We believe all entrepreneurs should have equal opportunities, focusing on great people with great business ideas over gender.
